Minister for Defence Meets Technology Experts Participating in Tech Summit

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met international technology experts participating in the 3rd Singapore Defence Technology Summit (Tech Summit) at a meeting this afternoon. Hosted by the Defence Science and Technology Agency, the Tech Summit was held as a hybrid event from 12 to 15 Oct 2021.

During the meeting, Dr Ng and these leaders from various defence-related industries and academia discussed the threats that emerging disruptive technological capabilities may pose to the defence sector, and how industries and militaries could harness benefits while guarding against the misuse of such technologies. They also spoke about the strategies adopted by various industries to tackle challenges with recent geopolitical developments.

This year, the Tech Summit brings together close to 800 participants, including global thought leaders from the government, industry and academia. These leaders include leading defence technology policymakers, national armament directors, chief technology officers, industry chief executive officers, academics and entrepreneurs. All participants attending the Tech Summit in Singapore are fully vaccinated and follow a strictly controlled itinerary. They are required to undergo pre-event testing daily prior to participating in the summit's activities. Safe distancing measures and limitations on mask-off activities are in place throughout the duration of the event.
