Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the inaugural Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Expert Appointment Ceremony at SAFTI Military Institute this evening, where 41 servicemen were appointed as Military Experts 4 of the SAF. The cohort included 19 Military Experts from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, 12 from the Republic of Singapore Navy, 6 from the Army and 4 from Joint.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Ng emphasised that the Military Domain Experts Scheme (MDES) is not just a career path and that it is a strategic capability for the SAF as "All three - soldier, commander and domain expert - will need to be built up to their full potential for the SAF to function at its optimum." Dr Ng also highlighted the challenges faced by the pioneer batch of graduands. He said: "As pioneers and pathfinders of the MDES, it falls squarely on you to forge an identity that is distinct from the Officers and Warrant Officers and yet in synergy with the overall mission of the SAF. I would view this stage since we started in April last year and this inaugural Senior ME course as a crucial stage for the MDES where you as leaders in the MDES must imprint values to produce an ethos which is enduring".
The appointment ceremony marked the completion of the Military Domain Experts Course. The training conducted during the course allowed the Military Experts to deepen their military domain knowledge, hone specialisation skills, develop leadership competency and critical thinking. The newly appointed Senior Military Experts will go on to assume command or technical appointments in their professional areas.
Also present at the ceremony were Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong, Chief of Air Force Major-General Ng Chee Meng, Chief of Army Major-General Ravinder Singh, Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng and other senior SAF officers as well as families and friends of the graduands.
