Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing reviewed a commissioning parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 253 cadets, comprising 164 from the Singapore Army, 30 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 59 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Speaking at the parade, Mr Chan reflected on the importance of resilience in the midst of global challenges and opportunities facing our world today. He said, "For Singapore, every day of peace is another hard-won achievement. Yet, we must remember that for every day of peace, it will become even harder for the next generation to remember why you serve. So, as you go forth and lead the men and women in the SAF, always stay resilient, always stay humble and keep learning”.
Mr Chan expressed his hope that the newly minted officers would support one another and contribute to a brighter future for Singapore. He said, “Take care of our men and women, and we will take care of the mission together. Upon your shoulders rests the hope of our nation… I am sure Singapore will be able to defy the course of history to reach SG100 and beyond”.
The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF. Also present at the parade were Chief of Air force, Major-General Kelvin Fan, senior Ministry of Defence officials and SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers.
