SAFVC Commemorates 10th Anniversary

The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) commemorated the 10th anniversary of its founding with a parade at Maju Camp this morning. The parade saw 44 SAFVC Volunteers (SVs) being presented with their formation patches to signify the completion of the two-week Basic Training. The parade also saw 65 SVs promoted in recognition of their commitment to defence by supporting SAF operations and training during their deployments. In addition, the SAFVC Creed was unveiled, and the SAFVC flag was handed over from an ex-SV to a member of the graduating cohort of SVs, symbolising the transfer of the SAFVC’s mission and values to the next generation of SVs.

This parade marks the 10th anniversary of the SAFVC’s founding and is a significant milestone for the SAFVC. The newly graduated and promoted SVs are expected to take on more challenging deployment roles as they continue to deepen their skills and knowledge. The new Creed also reflects the SAFVC’s commitment to enhance Singapore’s peace and security.

Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo was the Guest of Honour at the parade. He was accompanied by Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of Army Brigadier-General Cai Dexian and Commander SAFVC Colonel Soliano Paulinhno. The parade was witnessed by friends, family members and employers of SVs.

Speaking after the parade, MOS Choo acknowledged the enduring role that SVs play in contributing towards national defence. He said, “Over the last 10 years, 1500 people have come through the ranks, and we are very happy to see how they have contributed to building up a strong SAF, contributing to Singapore's defence and security through their selflessness and contributions. All of them come from very diverse backgrounds, contributing in a variety of vocations. Each of these is important in contributing to Singapore’s defence and security, especially in a time whereby security, geopolitically, is more complex than ever.” MOS Choo also expressed his gratitude to the families, partners, and employers in supporting the volunteers.

Addressing the SVs at the parade, COL Soliano expressed his appreciation to them and said, “Whether you are just beginning your journey, actively serving, or have already completed your service, you are part of a legacy that inspires others to follow. You remind us that many are moved, to serve not by duty but by devotion, and in doing so, you have added strength to our National Defence, and heart to our National Spirit.”
