Singapore Navy Sails Into VivoCity

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) returns to VivoCity from 13 to 18 November 2019 for Navy@Vivo 2019. Themed "Connecting Singaporeans to the Sea", visitors will be able to discover how the RSN safeguards the Singaporean way of life, which is closely intertwined with the sea. The event was launched by Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Lew Chuen Hong, earlier today at the VivoCity Atrium.

The RSN's Formidable-class stealth frigate RSS Supreme, embarked with the Sikorsky S-70B Seahawk naval helicopter, will be open for public visits at the VivoCity Promenade. Visitors will also have the opportunity to sail aboard a Fast Craft Utility to experience the busy Singapore Strait. In the evenings, visitors will also be able to witness the ceremonial sunset, a long-standing naval tradition, conducted daily on the flight deck of RSS Supreme.

Within VivoCity, exhibits will take visitors on a voyage of discovery to learn how Singaporeans depend on the sea for our livelihood and lifestyle. At the same time, visitors will experience naval operations in an immersive theatre and try out handling the weapons and equipment used by the RSN up close. There will also be demonstrations of the Boat Physical Training by the naval divers at the Amphitheatre, and children will be able to listen to stories told by our very own Navy personnel at library@harbourfront.

Chairman of Navy@Vivo 2019, Colonel Saw Shi Tat, hopes that the event will highlight the role that the RSN plays in defending the Singaporean way of life. He said, "Singapore is a maritime nation, and the sea is critically important, not just to our survival, but also our Singaporean way of life. In fact, our day-to-day lifestyle needs depend heavily on the sea and the flow of goods upon which it carries. Navy@Vivo aims to bring the Navy and the Sea directly to Singaporeans. I hope everyone who visits will leave with a better appreciation of how their life is intertwined with the sea, and also gain a deeper understanding of the roles that the RSN plays to safeguard the free access to the sea, both near and afar."
