Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo reviewed a commissioning parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 219 cadets, comprising 160 from the Singapore Army and 59 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Speaking at the parade, Minister Teo reflected on the responsibilities undertaken by officers and the qualities that define good leadership. She said, “Rank may give you the authority to lead. But it is your character and actions that will earn the trust of your colleagues.”
Minister Teo expressed her hope that the newly minted officers would carry the responsibility of defending Singapore and safeguarding our way of life. She said, “This evening, Singapore entrusts you with the privilege of command. Tomorrow, you begin earning the trust that gives it meaning.”
The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training in the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF. Also present at the parade were Chief of Army, Major-General Cai Dexian and senior SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers.
