A total of 240 cadets, comprising 183 from the Singapore Army, 4 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 53 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) today. The cadets received their ceremonial swords and letters of appointment at commissioning ceremonies organised at the Formation level, in recognition of this significant milestone in their journey as new officers of the SAF.

Addressing the graduands in a recorded video message as the Reviewing Officer for the proceedings, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration Mr Desmond Lee lauded the SAF's strong support in the nation's fight against COVID-19. He said, "More than 6,000 men and women of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), SAF and the defence technology community, including Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) and ex-regulars, contributed to our fight against COVID-19. The SAF took charge and took the challenges in their stride. The SAF also organised the National Day Parade, honouring our frontliners and celebrating the resilience of ordinary Singaporeans. Graduands, you are joining an organisation that has continuously given strength and support to Singaporeans during difficult times."

Mr Lee urged the graduands to always remember their responsibilities and values as SAF officers. He said, "Today is an important milestone for you. It marks the end of your cadet training, but it also marks a new beginning. You will face newer and heavier responsibilities, and hard knocks that test your mettle and character. You must lead with an officer's values: be humble, care for your people, and serve with purpose. I am confident that you will be able to Lead, Excel, and Overcome."

The cadets have completed 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF.
