Chief of Staff, Japan Joint Staff Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The Chief of Staff of the Japan Joint Staff General (GEN) Uchikura Hiroaki called on Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During their meeting, Minister Chan and GEN Uchikura reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Japan. They exchanged views on regional security developments and discussed bilateral cooperation between our defence establishments.
GEN Uchikura, who is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 10 to 12 August 2026, also called on Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng after inspecting a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his visit, GEN Uchikura visited Paya Lebar Air Base, where he received a brief on the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) Smart Airbase initiatives. He also viewed demonstrations and static displays showcasing the RSAF’s Smart Airbase capabilities, including counter-unmanned aerial systems and other technologies that enhance airbase operations.
GEN Uchikura’s visit underscores the warm and friendly defence relationship between Singapore and Japan. Both defence establishments interact regularly through high-level visits, professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses, staff talks, and multilateral engagements.
