Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad Attends Indo Defence Expo and Forum

 

 

Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad led a Singapore delegation to attend the 10th Indo Defence 2025 Expo and Forum, which brought together government officials, defence manufacturers, and industry experts to showcase defence technologies and promote international collaboration. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officiated the opening ceremony on 11 June.

During the visit, Mr Zaqy called on Indonesian Vice-Minister of Defense Air Marshal (Rtd) Donny Ermawan Taufanto. The leaders from both countries reaffirmed the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Indonesia, and discussed ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

The visit also provided a valuable opportunity for Mr Zaqy to interact with other bilateral defence partners. On the sidelines of the 10th Indo Defence Expo and Forum, Mr Zaqy called on Timor-Leste’s Minister of Defence Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes. Both parties reaffirmed the friendly bilateral relations between Singapore and Timor-Leste, and exchanged views on deepening bilateral defence ties. Mr Zaqy subsequently called on Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Şuay Alpay. Both Ministers discussed geopolitical developments in the world today, and ways to deepen defence cooperation in the region. Aside from these interactions, Mr Zaqy also had the opportunity to meet other defence counterparts, including Brunei’s Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Defence Adly bin Zahari.

Mr Zaqy's visit to Indonesia underscores the strength of defence relations between Singapore and Indonesia. Both defence establishments interact regularly through exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie between the two militaries. Singapore and Indonesia also work closely to advance security cooperation at multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Defence Minister's Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.
