Senior Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman visited Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from the 686th Battalion, Singapore Guards undergoing In-Camp Training at Jurong Camp this afternoon. As part of his visit, Dr Maliki observed the NSmen undergoing training to hone their soldiering skills as well as interacted with them.
Dr Maliki commended the operational readiness of the NSmen and highlighted that National Service (NS) remains a cornerstone of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Singapore's defence. He said, "Over the last 50 years, our NS population had been indispensable in building the strong and credible defence force that Singapore has today. It is important that our NSmen maintain a high level of combat readiness and operational capability, to be adaptive and responsive to evolving security threats." Dr Maliki also recognised their commitment and professionalism, and thanked the NSmen for their continued contributions to Singapore's defence. He said, "I am heartened by their commitment and dedication, and am confident that with the continued strong support from families and employers, our NSmen will continue to fulfil their duties in defending Singapore."
Dr Maliki was accompanied by Chief Guards Officer Brigadier-General Mark Tan and other senior commanders from the SAF.
