Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport Josephine Teo reviewed the 28th Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp this evening. A total of 1,173 Specialist Cadets (SCTs) comprising 1,037 from the Singapore Army, 51 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 85 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force graduated as Specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
During her speech at the parade, SMS Teo paid tribute to Singapore's former President, Mr S R Nathan, and observed a minute of silence with parade participants and attendees.
SMS Teo then spoke about the important role that the Specialists play in securing Singapore's peace and security. She said, "You are called to exercise your leadership to organise your people and inspire them to be the best they can be. You are called to be ever ready to lead your soldiers to battle to protect our families, and secure Singapore, our homeland." She added, "I am confident that the SAF will do everything in its power to protect Singapore and Singaporeans. Likewise I have no doubt that each of you will do whatever it takes to defend our home, our families, our way of life, in the same way our late former President Mr S R Nathan stood up for Singapore and our fellow Singaporeans for time and again."
The graduation parade marked the completion of the 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where the graduands trained under rigorous and realistic conditions to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the other vocations in the SAF. Present at the parade were families and friends of the graduands, and senior SAF officers.
