Singapore and Brunei Darussalam Celebrate Golden Jubilee of Defence Relations at Joint Parade

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) commemorated the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Brunei Darussalam defence relations with the Joint Parade (JP) at Muara Naval Base, Brunei Darussalam, today.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) commemorated the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Brunei Darussalam defence relations with the Joint Parade (JP) at Muara Naval Base, Brunei Darussalam, today.
The JP brought together 256 personnel and operational assets from land, naval and air forces of both Armed Forces. Besides featuring contingents from both Armed Forces, the parade also comprised a sail-past by the Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) Maritime Security and Response Vessel Protector and the Royal Brunei Navy’s (RBN) As-Siddiq-class Patrol Vessel KDB AS-SIDDIQ, and Darussalam-class Offshore Patrol Vessel KDB DARUSSALAM, as well as a fly-past by two of the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) H225M Medium Lift helicopters and three of the Royal Brunei Air Force’s (RBAirF) S-70i Blackhawk helicopters. Many of the participating personnel had also taken part in bilateral exercises leading up to the JP, reflecting the close and longstanding cooperation between both Armed Forces.
Prime Minister (PM) and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, were the Guests-of-Honour at the parade. Also present were Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing; Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (MG) (Ret) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi Bin Haji Mohd Yussof; Chief of Defence Force Vice-Admiral Aaron Beng; and Commander of the RBAF MG Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan. His Majesty was accompanied by Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Abdul Mateen and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Prince Abdul Malik.
Following the JP, PM Wong and His Majesty jointly launched and toured a Commemorative Gallery showcasing key milestones and the strong people-to-people ties that have underpinned the bilateral defence relationship over the past five decades.
The JP marks a key milestone in a year-long series of activities commemorating the Golden Jubilee, which have included bilateral exercises across all three Services and new areas of cooperation such as Exercise Vanguard, the Binturan Bridge and Underwater Demolition Range. These initiatives reflect both sides' commitment to further strengthen the defence relationship in the years ahead.
As part of his visit to Brunei Darussalam, PM Wong also met SAF personnel training in Temburong, where he interacted with the servicemen and engaged them on their training experiences. He was accompanied by Minister Chan and senior SAF officers.
Singapore and Brunei Darussalam’s bilateral defence relationship is underpinned by strong leadership, institutional and people-to-people ties, with both defence establishments interacting regularly through high-level visits, bilateral exercises, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions strengthen interoperability and mutual understanding, while fostering close professional and personal bonds across generations of SAF and RBAF personnel. As both countries look beyond the Golden Jubilee, Singapore remains committed to working with Brunei Darussalam to develop new and mutually beneficial areas of cooperation, while nurturing these close ties between future generations of SAF and RBAF personnel.
