Minister for Defence Reaffirms Strong Defence Ties with Counterparts at 19th Shangri-La Dialogue

 

 

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met his counterparts on the sidelines of the 19th Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) today, including the Defence Ministers from Cambodia and Canada.

During the meeting with Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Tea Banh, both Ministers reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Cambodia. Dr Ng also expressed Singapore's support for Cambodia's ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)/ADMM-Plus Chairmanship this year.

Dr Ng also met Canadian Minister of National Defence Anita Anand. The Ministers exchanged views on regional security architecture and discussed ways to work together to promote and support the rules-based international order. Both Ministers reaffirmed the friendly and growing defence relations between Singapore and Canada, underscored by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including defence and security policy, defence-related and military-to-military engagements and interactions, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives defence and training.

In addition, Dr Ng also met the Brunei Deputy Minister of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abdul Kadir, New Zealand Minister of Defence Peeni Henare, Philippines Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana, Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and Vietnam Defence Minister Phan Van Giang, and reaffirmed the strong bilateral defence ties between Singapore and the respective countries.
