Chinese Defence Minister Reaffirms Strong Ties During Call with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense General (GEN) Wei Fenghe is in Singapore for an official visit and to attend the 19th Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD). GEN Wei called on Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this afternoon. The call was also attended by Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How.
During the call, PM Lee and GEN Wei reaffirmed the long-standing, warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between Singapore and China, which has progressed significantly over the years. They welcomed the new initiatives under the 2019 Enhanced Agreement on Defence Exchanges and Security Cooperation first signed between Singapore and China in 2008, which has deepened the level of bilateral defence cooperation between both countries. PM Lee and GEN Wei also exchanged views on global and regional security developments and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and build mutual trust among countries.
