Thai Chief of Defence Forces Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces General (GEN) Surapong Suwana-adth, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 9 to 10 January, called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning.  During their meeting, Dr Ng and GEN Surapong reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Thailand. Dr Ng also conveyed Singapore's condolences to GEN Surapong and the people of Thailand for the devastation and loss of lives caused by recent flash floods in Thailand, and his sympathies to the bereaved families during this difficult period.

GEN Surapong's visit underscores the strong partnership between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Both armed forces interact regularly through high-level visits, professional exchanges, courses and exercises. These interactions have bolstered the professionalism and camaraderie between personnel of both armed forces.

As part of his programme, GEN Surapong also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Perry Lim after inspecting a Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence earlier today.
