Media Reply to Queries on RSN's LMV Programme

In response to media queries on the Republic of Singapore Navy's Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV) programme, the following reply was issued:
Q: When was the ASGSI system integrated on RSS Independence?
A: The Glide Slope Indicator has been installed since the start of the Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV)'s platform sea trials in 2016.
Q: Will all eight LMVs be outfitted with the same system?
A: The RSN is currently in the midst of operationalising the LMVs. All LMVs are fitted for mission modularity and have the capability to embark a medium-size helicopter for maritime security operations.
Q: The presence of the ASGSI indicates that the LMV programme will commence helicopter integration work. Would we be able to get a generic timeline on when this effort will commence/conclude?
A: The RSN has begun the operationalisation of the LMVs' helicopter capabilities, which includes harbour acceptance of helicopter landing aids and the refuelling system. As we operationalise the LMVs in the coming years, we will also be commencing helicopter integration to work towards the full operationalisation of the LMVs by 2020.
Q: Will the RSAF's S-70B Seahawk or Super Pumas be used for deck trials?
A: Both the S-70B Seahawk and Super Puma helicopters will be used for deck trials.
Q: What further trials are expected to be carried out in the future? Any further comment on the LMV's development so far? Any further comment from MINDEF/RSN?
A: The RSN is making good progress in the LMV programme. The first LMV, RSS Independence, was commissioned on 5 May 2017. Another four vessels - Sovereignty, Unity, Justice and Indomitable - have since been launched and are currently undergoing sea trials. Sovereignty and Unity will be operational by the end of the year. Construction for the remaining three LMVs have started and all eight LMVs will be fully operational by 2020.
