Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted Australia Minister for Defence Industry Steven Ciobo to lunch this afternoon. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship, explored opportunities for defence industry collaboration, and discussed the latest developments in Australia's defence industry.
Mr Ciobo, who is visiting Singapore from 8 to 10 November 2018, also met the Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Agency Mr Tan Peng Yam yesterday, where they exchanged views on developing innovative solutions and enhancing defence capabilities.
Mr Ciobo's visit underscores the growing defence cooperation between both countries under the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two countries' defence establishments interact regularly across a range of activities including military exercises, visits and exchanges, cross-attendance of courses and multilateral security platforms such as the Five Power Defence Arrangements. These interactions help strengthen mutual understanding and professional ties between both countries.
