Commander of the United States (US) Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, Lieutenant General (LTG) Steven R. Rudder called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and LTG Rudder reaffirmed the excellent and long-standing bilateral defence relations between the SAF and the US Marine Corps. They also discussed geopolitical developments and the importance of the US' presence for regional security.
LTG Rudder, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 7 to 10 March 2021, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong, Chief of Army Major-General Goh Si Hou, Chief of Air Force Major-General Kelvin Khong and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Aaron Beng after reviewing a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. He visited Headquarters Guards at Dieppe Barracks in the afternoon where he took a familiarisation ride on the Light Strike Vehicle Mark II.
LTG Rudder's visit underscores the strong relationship between Singapore and the US. Both defence establishments interact regularly through a wide range of activities, including multilateral and bilateral exercises such as Exercise Valiant Mark, high-level visits, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses. These mutually beneficial military interactions have enhanced the professionalism of both armed forces, strengthened interoperability, and deepen mutual understanding and camaraderie between their personnel.
Relevant health checks and safety measures were taken by the visiting delegation.
