Earlier today, Dr Ng Eng Hen visited the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) troops deployed in Kuwait as part of the counter-ISIS coalition, to get a first-hand experience of their operations. He was accompanied by senior SAF officers.
Dr Ng met the SAF's Imagery Analysis Team (IAT) at the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Headquarters in Kuwait where he was briefed on the IAT's tasks and responsibilities. Dr Ng also interacted with the SAF troops, who shared with him their operational experiences during the three months they had been there. Speaking to the 11-man IAT team, Dr Ng emphasised the important role that they were playing in Kuwait, which is part of Singapore's contributions to international security operations.
The SAF's IAT has been deployed in Kuwait since 2015, as part of Singapore's contributions to the multinational efforts to counter ISIS and offers unique support to the counter-ISIS coalition, by turning raw images into useful intelligence products.
Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen is in Bahrain from 9 to 10 Dec 2016. On 10 Dec, Dr Ng will be speaking at the Third Plenary Session on "Combating Extremism in the Middle East and Beyond".
