Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing led around 1000 personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in reciting the National Pledge and singing the National Anthem during MINDEF’s National Day Observance Ceremony this morning. The ceremony was held at MINDEF to celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday.
During the ceremony, artistes from the Music and Drama Company put up a dazzling performance highlighting this year’s theme, “We Are Singapore”. The performance captured the nation’s enduring spirit and aspirations for the past 60 years, through familiar local melodies with emotive dance performances, and seamlessly intertwines the role of the SAF with Singapore’s journey of progress.
Also present at the ceremony were Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo, Permanent Secretary (Defence) Mr Chan Heng Kee, Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, as well as other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF. All SAF units, including overseas training detachments, will also be holding observance ceremonies to celebrate National Day.
