Singapore and Indonesia Reaffirm Close and Long-standing Bilateral Defence Relations

Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How led the Singapore delegation attending the 8th Indo Defence 2018 Expo and Forum and visited the Singapore-based companies which exhibited their defence technology products at the Expo.
Mr Heng called on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs GEN (Rtd) Luhut Pandjaitan and they reaffirmed the strong and long-standing bilateral relations between both countries. Mr Heng was hosted to an official luncheon and also called on GEN (Rtd) Ryamizard where they discussed ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation, and cooperation on transnational security issues, such as on counter-terrorism.
Mr Heng also called on Australia Minister for Defence Industry Steven Ciobo on the sidelines of the Indo Defence 2018 Expo and Forum.
Mr Heng's visit to Indonesia underscores the close and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Indonesia. Both defence establishments have regular interactions through exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie between the two militaries. Singapore and Indonesia also work closely to advance security cooperation at multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Defence Minister's Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus involving 18 nations.
