The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, visited the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)'s Pasir Ris Camp this morning.
His Majesty was hosted by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen and was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance II Pehin Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II Pehin Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office Pehin Yasmin Umar, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Halbi Yussof, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Dato Hamdan Abu Bakar, and other senior Bruneian officials. Also present during the visit were Minister-in-Attendance Mr Ng Chee Meng and Chief of Army Major-General Melvyn Ong.
While at Pasir Ris Camp, His Majesty viewed the SAF's counter-terrorism forces storming a building, a freefall demonstration by the Red Lions, and fired training munitions on simulated terrorist targets. His Majesty was also taken on a tour of the Army's Airborne-Trooper Training Facility. To commemorate the visit, His Majesty was presented with the SAF's Honorary Advanced Military Freefall Wing at the end of his visit.
His Majesty's visit to the SAF underscores the close and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Brunei. Both countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of bilateral defence relations last year. Interactions between the SAF and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) have also grown in scope and depth, with regular bilateral exercises, visits and professional exchanges.
His Majesty is in Singapore on a two-day State Visit from 5 to 6 July 2017.
