Mr Abdul Samad: To ask the Minister for Defence what are the current popular vocation choices indicated amongst full-time national servicemen for their deployment under the preference indication scheme.
Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen:
Under the Vocation Interest Initiative introduced in November 2016, pre-enlistees have been able to indicate their interest in National Service (NS) vocations. Their indicated interest will be an additional factor in determining their vocations during NS, together with other considerations such as suitability, manpower and operational requirements.
More popular vocation choices among the pre-enlistees include Air Defence, Artillery, Intelligence, Island Defence, Signals and Transport.
