The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Alongkorn Vannarot, was conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)], by President Halimah Yacob. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen presented the award to ACM Alongkorn at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this afternoon.
ACM Alongkorn was conferred the award in recognition of his significant contributions in strengthening bilateral defence ties between the RTAF and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). Under ACM Alongkorn's leadership, both air forces continued to enhance bilateral defence cooperation through high-level visits, regular cross-attendance of courses, professional exchanges and the conduct of multilateral exercises such as Exercise Cope Tiger. These interactions have enhanced the interoperability between both Air Forces, and deepened the trust and rapport between the airmen and women of both countries.
ACM Alongkorn is in Singapore from 4 to 6 September 2023. As part of the visit, ACM Alongkorn also called on Dr Ng, Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng and Chief of Air Force Major-General (MG) Kelvin Khong earlier today after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF.
