Reply to Media Queries from Jane's and Shephard Media on Formidable-class Frigates' Mid-Life Upgrade Programme

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) announced at the Committee of Supply Debate 2022 that the Formidable-class Frigates will be undergoing a mid-life upgrade[1] to ensure that they retain the capability and flexibility to meet evolving operational demands, after being in service for almost two decades. The mid-life upgrade will comprise enhancements to the frigates' communication, combat management and weapon systems. As part of the upgrade programme, the Harpoon Surface-to-Surface Missile (SSM) currently fitted onboard the frigates will be replaced with the Blue Spear SSM.
