Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad is attending the 16th Manama Dialogue 2020 virtually from 5 to 6 December 2020. Organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the annual dialogue is a key security forum for senior defence, security and foreign affairs officials from around the world to discuss security challenges in the Middle East and beyond. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the dialogue this year is held in a hybrid format with a smaller-scale physical dialogue held in Bahrain, and the rest of the delegates attending the dialogue virtually.
This afternoon [SG Time], Mr Zaqy participated in discussions on regional and global security issues such as global governance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and Middle East security in a global context. He will be participating in a discussion on new security partnerships in the Middle East tomorrow [SG Time].
Singapore has been an active participant of the Manama Dialogue since its inception in 2004, and remains engaged in discussions on regional and international security issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The 16th Manama Dialogue is attended by officials from more than 40 countries, including Australia, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
