Fact Sheet: Republic of Singapore Air Force Open House 2021

Background

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Open House 2021 (ROH21) will be an interactive, fully-virtual event accessible online from 3 to 19 December 2021. With a range of engaging and interactive activities lined up, ROH21 will allow visitors to better understand the RSAF's operations, training and capabilities, and how the RSAF maintains a high state of operational readiness.

ROH21 is a virtual exhibition showcasing the RSAF's history, development and capabilities, 3D static displays of the RSAF's aircraft and Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems, interactive online games, and exclusive videos and livestreams featuring special guest hosts. Visitors participating in the ROH21 activities, challenges and games can collect "stars", which can be used to redeem for virtual skins (customisable uniforms, backdrop and achievement medals) for their avatars. Visitors will also stand a chance to win prizes and memorabilia through the "ROH21 Air Drop". The prizes include exclusive RSAF memorabilia such as ROH21 CPT Ted bears, reusable tote bags and patches.

The ROH21 website will be accessible online at https://www.go.gov.sg/ROH21 from 3 to 19 December 2021. Members of the public may visit the RSAF Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheRSAF for more details on ROH21's highlights.

Let's Visit

Visitors will be able to view the RSAF's history, development and capabilities through informative panels and engaging videos in the virtual exhibition hall. Get up close with 3D static displays of more than 25 RSAF aircraft and GBAD systems in the virtual hangars. Do look out for the RSAF's latest assets, the H225M Medium Lift Helicopter and the CH-47F Heavy Lift Helicopter.

Let's Play

Visitors will be able to enjoy four games:

R – REMEMBER Our Assets: a memory game on the RSAF's assets

S – SEEK Knowledge: a trivia quiz game testing your knowledge about the RSAF

A – ATTACK From The Skies: players get to choose from five different fighter jets in an aerial shooter game to defend against a host of incoming threats.

F – FORTIFY Our Bases: a tower defence strategy game where players are required to build up the base's defence systems against incoming threats from the air, land and sea.

Let's Watch

Visitors can look forward to exclusive behind-the-scenes ROH21 videos of RSAF training and operations through the eyes of guest hosts including Gurmit Singh, Annette Lee, Rai Kannu, Nicole Lee, and Jyotsnaa Jayashanker.

There will be livestreams providing a glimpse of the RSAF's missions over the event's opening weekend on 3 to 5 December 2021. This includes the inaugural appearance of the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SFYC)'s Virtual Black Knights (VBK)1 performing a virtual aerial aerobatics routine.

The livestreams will be accessible via the 'STREAMING NOW' tab on the ROH21 website landing page as well as on RSAF social media platforms. The videos will be made available for viewing under the same 'STREAMING NOW' tab, after going 'live'. The timings for the livestreams are as follows:

Let's Post

Visitors can take part in the ROH21 Creative Challenges and stand to win prizes. Different sets of Creative Challenges will be released periodically through the "Let's Post" section, where visitors are invited to submit photographs or videos of themselves participating in activities. Selected photographs and videos will also be shortlisted for a voting contest on the website.

1The VBK team comprises former and current SYFC students, taking on the roles of virtual pilots, commentators, support crew and media team. The team utilises a flight simulation software to fly virtually in formation together, with Virtual Reality goggles worn by the pilots to add realism to the aerobatic flying. Through this initiative, SYFC hopes to excite and continue inspiring youths to take up flying and eventually pursue a career in aviation.
