The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Admiral (ADM) Siwi Sukma Adji called on Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this afternoon. ADM Siwi also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Lew Chuen Hong, and reviewed a Guard of Honour at MINDEF earlier today. ADM Siwi is on his introductory visit to Singapore from 3 to 5 August 2018.
During their meeting, Mr Heng and ADM Siwi reaffirmed the long-standing bilateral defence relationship and the good progress made in deepening the relationship between the two navies. They discussed the continued efforts towards enhancing bilateral cooperation in maritime security as well as in counter-terrorism. ADM Siwi, who is making his introductory visit in conjunction with the 12th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting, also observed the Table-Top Exercise for the ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise earlier this morning. ADM Siwi will also visit the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)'s Formidable-class Frigate RSS Formidable and Information Fusion Centre at Changi Naval Base tomorrow.
ADM Siwi's visit underscores the close and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Indonesia. The RSN and TNI AL conduct regular professional exchanges, exercises and port calls, and collaborate through the multilateral Malacca Straits Patrol and other activities such as socio-civic programmes. These regular interactions have enhanced the close ties and mutual understanding between the personnel of both navies.
