Second Minister for Defence Mr Ong Ye Kung visited Jakarta, Indonesia from 1 to 2 November 2016. He attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Indo Defence 2016 Expo and Forum officiated by Indonesian Vice-President Mr Jusuf Kalla as well as the event's official luncheon hosted by Indonesian Defence Minister General (GEN) (Rtd) Ryamizard Ryacudu.
As part of the visit, Mr Ong called on GEN (Rtd) Ryamizard. During their meeting, Mr Ong and GEN (Rtd) Ryamizard reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship and discussed transnational security issues. Mr Ong also called on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs GEN (Rtd) Luhut Pandjaitan.
Both defence establishments have regular interactions through exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie between the two defence establishments. Singapore and Indonesia also interact at multilateral fora such as the Shangri-La Dialogue, the ASEAN Defence Minister's Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.
