The Vietnam People's Army Chief of General Staff and Vice Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant-General (SNR-LG) Phan Van Giang called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen this morning. During the meeting, Dr Ng and SNR-LG Giang reaffirmed the warm and friendly defence relationship between Singapore and Vietnam, and exchanged views on regional and international security issues of mutual interest, such as cooperation under the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.
SNR-LG Giang, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 28 February to 2 March 2019, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong after reviewing a Guard of Honour in the Ministry of Defence this afternoon. As part of his visit, SNR-LG Giang will also visit the Infantry Gunnery and Tactical Simulator at Pasir Laba Camp later today where he will view a demonstration of the simulator.
SNR-LG Giang's visit highlights the warm and friendly defence relations between Singapore and Vietnam, underscored by the signing of the Defence Cooperation Agreement at the Ministerial-level in September 2009. Both armed forces interact regularly through high-level visits, professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses, port calls and multilateral exercises.
