The Singapore Army will be commemorating its 55th anniversary this year, and has organised a virtual exhibition, themed #OurArmyFamily, to recognise the contributions of soldiers past and present, and appreciate Singaporeans and their families for their continued support of the Army and its servicemen and women.
Addressing Singaporeans in a pre-recorded video as the Guest of Honour for the virtual launch, Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How said, "Our Army is strong because of the commitment of our soldiers, and the public support for national service and our national defence... Army 55 is a time for us to celebrate and appreciate the soldier in every family, and the strength we draw from our Army family. This virtual exhibition will honour our soldiers and those who support them."
Mr Heng also expressed his appreciation for the Army's commitment to defending Singapore and for their contributions to the national fight against COVID-19. He said, "In our nation's time of need, our Army answered the call of duty. Over 5,000 Army personnel, active and NS, stepped forward to contribute to the fight and made a difference... let me once again thank all our soldiers, past and present, for your dedication, commitment and sacrifices made towards our Army over the past 55 years, in service of our national defence."
Also present at the launch were Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Goh Si Hou, Director National Service Affairs Brigadier-General (BG) Kenneth Liow, Sergeant Major of the Army Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Chua Hock Guan and Chairman of the Army 55 Virtual Exhibition Organising Committee Colonel (COL) Dean Yik.
The Army 55 Virtual Exhibition will be accessible at (www.go.gov.sg/OurArmyFamily) from 1 to 13 December 2020. Members of public may visit the Singapore Army Facebook page for more information (www.facebook.com/OurSingaporeArmy).
