Second Minister for Defence Mr Ong Ye Kung hosted His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, to a visit at the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)'s Armour Simulation Centre (ASC) this morning. Also present were Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Roselan bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister of State for Communications and Information and Minister of State for Education Dr Janil Puthucheary, Chief of Army Major-General Melvyn Ong as well as senior Singaporean and Bruneian officials.
His Royal Highness is in Singapore on a six-day official visit from 27 November to 2 December 2016, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Mr Teo Chee Hean, for the 4th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders' Programme.
The first foreign dignitary to visit the newly opened ASC, His Royal Highness was briefed on the virtual simulation systems for gunnery, tactical manoeuvre, and driving training - the Armour Gunnery and Manoeuvre Simulator (AGMS), and the Armour Driving Simulator (ADS). He also observed the AGMS and ADS demonstrations. Before leaving the ASC, His Royal Highness interacted with Royal Brunei Armed Forces personnel training with the SAF.
His Royal Highness' visit to the ASC underscores the close defence relationship between Singapore and Brunei forged since 1976. The long-standing defence relationship has deepened with the growth in scope and complexity of interactions between the SAF and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Both armed forces interact regularly through a wide range of activities, such as regular bilateral exercises, visits and professional exchanges.
