1 August 2025
Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing visited the Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) at Tuas Naval Base this morning.
Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing visited the Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) at Tuas Naval Base this morning. As part of the programme, Mr Chan visited RSS Daring, the Littoral Mission Vessel Simulation Centre (LMV SIMCEN), where he observed a LMV crew undergoing training. He was also briefed on Republic of Singapore Navy’s use of technology and simulation to provide training realism for our sailors to hone their skills across a wide range of scenarios, which was critical given the demanding nature of operating at sea.
Mr Chan then sailed on board a LMV, RSS Indomitable, and was briefed about the RSN operations against a range of maritime threats in the busy Singapore Strait. While on board, Mr Chan also observed the LMV’s shipboard operations including countering small boat threats, firefighting and damage control drills, and the launching of boats for boarding operations. Mr Chan also interacted with the ship crew to better understand our sailors’ experiences.
As part of his visit, Mr Chan also visited Maritime Security and Response Vessel (MSRV) Protector (PRO). He was briefed on the MSRV’s range of calibrated non-lethal capabilities, which provides the RSN more options to better respond to maritime incidents.
Mr Chan was accompanied by Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo, Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat and other senior SAF officers during the visit.
