Nexus is the lead agency in MINDEF/SAF that drives National Education and Total Defence efforts – to strengthen Singaporeans’ resilience, unity and commitment to the nation.
For a small, open country like Singapore, building a shared identity and understanding of what we stand for strengthens our collective resolve to overcome increasingly complex challenges that may undermine societal cohesion and resilience.
At Nexus, we empower Singaporeans to reflect on what it means to be Singaporean and seek to deepen their sense of nationhood.
We are committed to exploring innovative and engaging ways to connect with our audiences, and work in close partnership with our 3P (public-people-private) sector partners to achieve our objectives.
Our Initiatives
Total Defence Campaign
Total Defence is about everyone doing their part to keep Singapore strong and united. Each year, we reach out to the public to help them understand what Total Defence means and how they can play a part.

Commitment to Defence Ambassadors & National Education Facilitators Programme
Commitment to Defence (C2D) Ambassadors are a group of SAF veterans and NSmen who share their experiences in past events, such as the 1964 racial riots, or military missions such as Operation Flying Eagle.
National Education Facilitators are SAF officers who share their military experiences to help students better understand defence, National Service, and the importance of a strong SAF.

Oral History Recordings
To help young Singaporeans appreciate the values that built our nation, Nexus has gathered oral history recordings from SAF veterans and NSmen. They share personal stories from key moments in Singapore’s history — like the Japanese Occupation, the 1964 Racial Riots, the early years of the SAF, as well as humanitarian and disaster relief missions.
