Innovation Symposium 2019

29-30 October 2019 @ Singapore University of Technology and Design

Welcome to the Innovation Symposium 2019 (IS19)!

This year, IS19 is themed "Solving Problems; Innovating Together", a simple reminder that being better starts with solving problems, innovating together and making it meaningful.

Journey through four "How Might We" zones at the event site or here online – How Might We Work and Collaborate Better, How Might We Learn and Train Better, How Might We Leverage Data and How Might We Innovate Better. The journey does not end there, you will be transported into a realm of innovation stories and enabling resources. Kick-start your imagination by asking yourself "How Might I?"

Let us celebrate, explore and learn from fellow servicemen, servicewomen and industry luminaries on how we can be better at what we do.

Ready? Get inspired here.

PRIDE REBRANDING

The PRoductivity and Innovation in Daily Efforts (PRIDE) Movement has played a key role in building a strong pioneering spirit of innovation for the past 38 years. To upkeep this, the next wave is to supercharge innovation efforts – enabling our people to unlock possibilities and empowering them to bring their ideas to life.

Co-create tomorrow’s reality with us today. Step forward to be part of the rebranding exercise by naming this movement, using our very own crowdsourcing tool PITCH. Submit your suggestions at https://pitch.defence.gov.sg/pitch/ now!

How Might You… Name Our Innovation Movement?

Million Hours Challenge

About the challenge

The Million Hours Challenge is one of the Public Sector Transformation (PST) initiatives that aims to achieve the collective goal of saving 3 million hours of transaction time for citizens and public officers.

Imagine saving time and spending it on more important things, such as engaging in meaningful work, activities, or spending time with your family. Saving time is just one aspect of this challenge; equally important is how lives are made better as a result of the innovation efforts.

Who can participate?

If you have a project that meets the criteria, you are welcome to submit it to us. Want to know whether your project fits the bill? Here are some parameters to guide you:

  • Projects that were implemented from Nov 2018 onwards
  • Projects that resulted in substantial time saving (you may also highlight those projects with significant projected time saving too)
  • Ground up innovative solutions are preferred
  • Projects that help in Service or Workplace journey

Wondering what kind of projects should be submitted to the challenge? Here are some examples submitted by other public service agencies:

  • Using drones to inspect tunnels – Land Transport Authority (LTA)
    • LTA is trialling the use of drones to inspect train tunnel structures. LTA staff no longer need to erect mobile scaffoldings because drones can now capture images for inspection, thus generating time savings for the LTA officers.
  • Mobile Tele-Medicine – Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP)
    • NP has re-imagined how we consult with physicians through tele-medicine. Students and teachers can now consult a doctor without needing to step out of their homes! e-MCs and medications will also be delivered to them. Such convenience helps save time for the users.
  • Enabling faster collection of rat droppings – National Environment Agency (NEA)
    • A team in NEA has introduced a motorised equipment to collect rat droppings in unreachable areas. This innovation improves their work efficiency and safety. Shopping mall stakeholders are also happier with the reduced time taken to clean up their work environments.
