Minister for Defence Attends Malaysia's 18th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference

 

 

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 6 to 7 May 2024 to attend the 18th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference. The opening ceremony was officiated by Malaysian Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the official dinner was hosted by Malaysian Minister of Defence Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Dr Ng also met Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on the sidelines of the exhibition, and reaffirmed the warm and long-standing relationship between both countries. Dr Ng expressed appreciation for the good progress made in bilateral relations. Both Defence Ministers agreed to enhance the defence relationship through more interactions at all levels. They also discussed regional security issues, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen practical cooperation through multilateral fora such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), ADMM-Plus and Five Power Defence Arrangements.

Dr Ng's visit to Malaysia underscores the warm and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Malaysia. Both defence establishments interact regularly across a wide range of activities, including bilateral and multilateral exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and the cross-attendance of courses. These interactions have enhanced the mutual understanding and professional ties between the defence establishments of both countries.
