German Chief of Navy Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The German Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral (VADM) Jan Christian Kaack called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and VADM Kaack reaffirmed the warm and growing defence relations between Singapore and Germany, and discussed how both navies could deepen bilateral cooperation. They also exchanged views on geopolitical developments, as well as ways to address security challenges in the region and support the rules-based international order. The call was conducted on the sidelines of the 13th International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEX) Asia.

VADM Kaack is in Singapore from 2 to 5 May 2023 for his introductory visit. As part of his visit, VADM Kaack will attend the 8th International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) on 4 May. On 5 May, he will call on Chief of Defence Force Rear-Admiral (RADM) Aaron Beng and Chief of Navy (RADM) Sean Wat, inspect the Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), and visit RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base, where he will receive a brief on the RSN's developments in unmanned systems.

Singapore and Germany cooperate and interact frequently through high-level visits and dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, cross-attendance of professional courses, as well as technology collaboration. These interactions have reinforced professional ties between the two defence establishments, underpinned by the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018.
