SAF Personnel and Singaporeans Affirm Commitment to Defence at SAF Day Parade

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) commemorated SAF Day at a parade officiated by President Halimah Yacob at SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) this evening.

More than 2,000 SAF Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and Regulars attended the parade. This year's parade marked 55 years of National Service and is also the first full-scale physical parade since the COVID-19 pandemic. Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General (LG) Melvyn Ong led SAF personnel in reciting the SAF pledge to reaffirm their loyalty to Singapore and their steadfast commitment to its defence.

At the parade, President Halimah presented the State Colours to this year's Best Combat Unit, 1st Commando Battalion, while Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen presented 29 Best Unit and Best National Service Unit awards. Dr Ng also presented 19 NSman of the Year awards at the post parade ceremony to recognise the outstanding contributions by the NSmen.

Other SAF personnel and members of the public joined the parade via video livestreaming on the Ministry of Defence's social media channels.

Also present at the parade were Senior Ministers of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How and Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Permanent Secretary for Defence Mr Chan Heng Kee, the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.
