Singapore and Germany Reaffirm Warm and Growing Defence Ties

 

 

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met Germany's Federal Minister of Defence Christine Lambrecht in Berlin, Germany on 14 December 2022 (Singapore time), after attending the launch ceremony of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)'s second and third submarines in Kiel on 13 December 2022 (Singapore time).

During the meeting, both Ministers reaffirmed the warm and growing defence relations between Singapore and Germany, as well as the commitment to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation as agreed upon under the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018. Dr Ng conveyed Singapore's appreciation for Germany's support for the Singapore Armed Forces' training in Germany since 2009. Dr Ng and Minister Lambrecht also exchanged views on geopolitical and security developments, and how both countries could work together to uphold a rules-based international order.

Singapore and Germany cooperate and interact regularly through high-level visits and dialogues, military to military exchanges, cross attendance of professional courses, and technological cooperation. These interactions have reinforced the professional ties between the two defence establishments.
