Joint MINDEF-HPB News Release: Update on Cause of Death of NSman and Continued Suspension of HPB's Quick HIIT Sessions

The cause of death of the Operationally Ready National Serviceman who collapsed while participating in the Health Promotion Board (HPB)'s Quick HIIT session as part of the NS FIT[1] programme in West Coast Park on 2 March 2022 was coronary artery disease, as determined by the post-mortem examination.

HPB's review of safety practices for its fitness programme is ongoing. HPB's Quick HIIT sessions remain suspended till further notice.

The Ministry of Defence, the Singapore Armed Forces and HPB continues to assist the family in their time of grief.

 


[1] NS FIT programme, introduced in collaboration with HPB and Sport Singapore (SportSG) in 2021 is a fitness programme designed to encourage NSmen to adopt active and healthy lifestyles by bringing NS fitness activities nearer to the community. NS FIT offers a variety of fitness activities across 42 locations island-wide, including the Fitness Conditioning Centres in SAF camps, selected public parks, HPB Quick HIIT sites and SAFRA Energy-One gym.
