SAF Concludes Participation in Multinational Exercise Cobra Gold 2022

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) participated in the multinational Exercise Cobra Gold (XCG) 2022. Held in Rayong, Thailand, the exercise was co-hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) and the United States Indo-Pacific Command (US INDOPACOM). This year marks the 41st iteration of the exercise and the SAF's 23rd year of participation.

COL Low Wilson, Chief Guards Officer, led a 44-member delegation to Thailand to assume key exercise appointments within the Multinational Combined Task Force. The exercise focused on the conduct of joint operations amongst participating nations to address traditional and non-traditional threats. From the delegation, a five-member team of combat engineers from the Singapore Army also participated in a multinational Engineer Civic Assistance Program (ENCAP) to construct a multi-purpose building for the Wat Khlong Takian School in Chanthaburi Province, Thailand. A three-member team also participated in a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) table top exercise virtually from Singapore.

The SAF worked closely with the hosts to enforce strict COVID-19 Safe Management Measures (SMM) in Singapore and Thailand to ensure safety of the participants. Measures include vaccination, Rostered Routine Testing (RRT), cohorting by functional groups and mask-on policy. For the SAF delegation in Thailand, movements were also limited to the participants' accommodation and exercise areas.

XCG is one of the largest multinational exercises in the Asia-Pacific region to promote friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding amongst the participating armed forces. The SAF has been a full participant of the XCG series since 2000.
