The German Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral (VADM) Kay-Achim Schönbach, called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and VADM Schönbach reaffirmed efforts in bilateral defence cooperation such as in submarine training and defence technology. Both sides also discussed Germany's future engagement of the Asia-Pacific region and how the two countries could work together to preserve the international rules-based order at sea.

VADM Schönbach, who is in Singapore from 19 to 22 December 2021, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Aaron Beng after inspecting the Guard of Honour in MINDEF. As part of his visit, VADM Schönbach will also visit RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base, where he will receive a brief on the RSN's capability developmental areas and on the Singapore Maritime Crisis Centre. He will also board the German Brandenburg-class frigate Bayern which is currently on a port call in RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base.

VADM Schönbach's visit underscores the warm and growing defence relationship between Singapore and Germany. Both countries cooperate and interact consistently through high-level visits and dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, cross-attendance of professional courses, as well as technology collaboration.
