Reply to ST's Queries on Installation of Wireless@SG in MINDEF/SAF Premises and Camps

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are embarking on the installation of Wireless@SG service to enhance our ongoing digitalisation efforts by scaling up wireless broadband access across MINDEF/SAF premises and camps. The enhanced connectivity will support digitalisation initiatives such as Smart Camps and Smart Airbases, which utilise smart technologies to improve areas like operating efficiency, administration, security, and user experience. Servicemen including Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) will also be able to access the free wireless networks for e-learning and personal administration.

Wireless@SG is currently being installed and piloted in eight MINDEF/SAF sites[1]. All eight sites are expected to be equipped with Wireless@SG service by the first half of 2021. The Wireless@SG networks will be separated from MINDEF/SAF's internal networks for cyber and data security. Following the pilot trials, Wireless@SG service will be progressively rolled out to the rest of MINDEF/SAF premises and camps over the next few years.

[1] The eight sites are Air Force Training Command, Central Manpower Base, Changi Naval Base, Hillview Camp, Jurong Camp II, Kranji Camp II, MINDEF Building and Stagmont Camp.
