Singapore and Brunei Conclude Bilateral Army Exercise

Chief of Staff-General Staff Brigadier-General (BG) Kenneth Liow and Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Khairul Hamed bin Awang Haji Lampoh co-officiated at the closing ceremony of Exercise Maju Bersama earlier today in Mandai Hill Camp.

The exercise, in its 23rd edition, was conducted from 15 to 25 January 2019, and involved 443 soldiers from the Singapore Army's Headquarters 2nd Singapore Infantry Brigade; 16th Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence Battalion; 4th Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment; and the RBLF's 3rd Battalion. The exercise consisted of professional exchanges, a company-level urban operations exercise, and a brigade-level command post exercise.

At the closing ceremony, BG Liow spoke about the importance of Exercise Maju Bersama. He said, "Exercise Maju Bersama is an important platform to facilitate interactions that have allowed our people to understand each other better. And because of this, we are able to work well together and act in concert to solve both traditional and non-traditional security challenges arising in our region".

Exercise Maju Bersama underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Brunei and provides an excellent opportunity for both countries to strengthen army-to-army professional interactions. Apart from Exercise Maju Bersama, the Singapore Army and the RBLF also interact regularly through other bilateral and multilateral exercises, visits and professional exchanges, which have fostered mutual understanding and enhanced interoperability between the two armies.
