Chief of Army of the Malaysian Armed Forces Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The Malaysian Armed Forces Chief of Army, General (GEN) Dato' Seri Panglima Hj Ahmad Hasbullah bin Hj Mohd Nawawi, called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During the meeting, Dr Ng and GEN Hasbullah reaffirmed the importance of maintaining positive army-to-army ties, and also discussed defence cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as counter-terrorism.

GEN Hasbullah, who is on his introductory visit to Singapore from 1 to 4 August 2019, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and Chief of Army Major-General Goh Si Hou, and reviewed a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his visit, GEN Hasbullah visited the 2nd People's Defence Force this afternoon where he viewed a static display of Army assets and embarked on a familiarisation ride on the Peacekeeper Protected Response Vehicle. He also visited ST Engineering.

GEN Hasbullah's visit underscores the long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Malaysia. Both armed forces interact across a wide range of activities, including bilateral exercises, visits and exchanges, cross-attendance of courses, as well as multilateral activities. Such interactions have enhanced mutual understanding and professional ties between personnel of both armed forces.
