SAF Ups Training Effectiveness with First-of-its-Kind Airborne Facility

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the opening of the Airborne-Trooper Training Facility (ATF) at Pasir Ris Camp this afternoon.

The ATF is the first-of-its-kind, all-weather, one-stop training facility that employs state-of-the-art technology to enhance realism, effectiveness and efficiency in airborne training in a safe environment for the SAF. Comprising the Parachuting Training Facility (PTF) and the Rappelling Training Facility (RTF), the ATF hones the skills of our soldiers by enhancing their proficiencies in basic airborne, heli-rappelling insertion and heli-roping insertion. The PTF integrates each stage of training to simulate a realistic training experience from complete aircraft exit to landing. Trainees are able to experience realistic flight time, landing and ground drag. The RTF is an all day-and-night facility that enables progressive training in rappelling from basic to advanced skills located within one location for better training efficiency.

The ATF is part of the SAF's 3rd generation training transformation effort. Also present at the opening were Chief of Staff, General Staff Brigadier-General Lim Hock Yu and other senior officers from the Singapore Armed Forces.
