The Total Defence pillars are a grouping of actions that individuals and communities can take to keep Singapore safe, strong and independent. The Total Defence icons represent the pillars and serve as visual cues to help Singaporeans identify with putting Total Defence into action.

The icons for the original pillars of Total Defence were refreshed in 2018 along with the latest addition of the Digital Defence icon as the sixth pillar of Total Defence in 2019.

The metallic sheen, similar to the Total Defence logo, reminds us that we need to have that steel in us to help Singapore remain a shining red dot. The incorporation of a shield within each icon reflects that Total Defence will be our shield through any threats and challenges that may confront Singapore.
