The idea of an Alumni of SAFTI graduates was first mooted by BG (NS) Lee Hsien Loong in a speech delivered at the Nov '87 Graduation Ceremony, when he spoke of the need to build up the Officer Corps tradition, to establish the "roots" of SAFTI so that its spirit and the values it embodies are maintained.

The objectives of the Association are:

• To promote greater cohesion and interaction among Members.
  
  
• To promote and further social, cultural, educational and sporting activities for Members.
  
  
• To provide and maintain amenities for rest and recreation for Members.

After five years of planning and discussion, the SAFTI Alumni Association was registered with Registrar of Societies. In August 1993, the Secretariat was established in the Officer Cadet School of SAFTI prior to its move to the new premise at SAFTI MIHQ. The association was launched in Dec '93 and the 1st AGM held in Jun '94. On 25 Jul 1994, BG Chin Chow Yoon became the first President of the Association's Executive Committee.

The current President of the SAFTI Alumni Association is BG Chua Boon Keat, Comdt SAFTI MI.
