Japan Air Chief Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) General (GEN) Yoshinari Marumo called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During the meeting, Dr Ng reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship, and thanked Japan for its strong and consistent support for multilateral events hosted by Singapore. Dr Ng and GEN Marumo also exchanged views on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and the regional security situation.

GEN Marumo is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 23 to 24 October 2019. Prior to calling on Dr Ng, GEN Marumo also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and Chief of Air Force Major-General Kelvin Khong, and reviewed a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his introductory visit, GEN Marumo also visited 165 Squadron at Chong Pang Camp, where he viewed a static display of the Surface-to-air PYthon-5 and DERby (SPYDER) Ground-Based Air Defence system.

GEN Marumo's visit underscores the warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Japan. Both militaries interact regularly through visits, port calls, policy dialogues, military staff talks and cross-attendance of professional courses and seminars.
