After 45 years of loyal service, the ubiquitous V200 armoured vehicles - a sight familiar to almost every soldier will retire from watching over Singapore's key installations and facilities. Taking their place are the Peacekeeper PRVs that are built to provide soldiers with greater protection and mobility.
At the commissioning of the Peacekeeper, held on 8 Jul in conjunction with the 2nd People's Defence Force (2 PDF) Command Golden Jubilee Parade, Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen noted that the new vehicles marked a milestone in 2PDF Command s island defences.
"(The Peacekeeper) will provide better means for 2 PDF Command to keep Singapore's key installations and facilities safe (because it has) more capabilities than the previously used V200 armoured vehicles," said Dr Ng.
One of its key features is a Remote Control Weapon System, which can be operated from within the vehicle, keeping the crew out of the direct line of fire.
The vehicle also supports three different weapon configurations: the 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL), 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun and 7.62mm Coaxial Machine Gun (CMG). In comparison, the V200 can only be mounted with a 20mm Oerlikon gun or 7.62mm CMG.
With flexible modular components, the Peacekeeper can be easily configured by the crew to suit various operational requirements.
In addition, the Peacekeeper's crew is able to engage targets accurately while stationary or on the move. This enables the troops to support ground forces with sustained and accurate fire.

Enhanced Weapon System
A Remote Control Weapon System (RCWS) allows the Peacekeeper to be mounted with one of three different weapon configurations.
It also comes with an integrated Optical/Thermal Imaging/Eye-safe Laser Range Finder. Gunners can operate it safely from within vehicle.
